The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Tuesday flagged a listeria contamination in 250g vacuum bags of JB Nicholas and Son Premium Tasmanian Smoked Ham expiring on October 16.
The recall comes less than a month after JB Nicholas and Son, based in Geeveston in the Huon Valley, scooped a number of prizes at the 2021 Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards.
The contaminated smoked ham product was sold at the Geeveston and Cygnet IGAs, and the Hill Street Grocer in Sandy Bay, Hobart, between Tuesday August 31 and Thursday September 9.
It was also on the shelves at IGAs and independent grocers in Victoria between these dates.
Listeria can cause illness in pregnant women and their unborn babies and is also a risk for the elderly and people with low immune systems.

The ACCC said any consumers concerned about their health have been urged to seek medical advice and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.
JB Nicholas and Son owner Matthew Nicholas said the butcher was working on identifying the source of the infection.
“We’ve already done secondary testing and the levels are very low, which is good news,” he said on Wednesday.
JB Nicholas won gold for its shortcut bacon at the state’s fine food awards in August, as well as a swag of silver and bronze medals for boneless and rindless ham, cooked ham on bone corn silverside, and smoked chicken breasts.
